first shot ❀ video ❀ pallet town

[The PokéGear turns on to show Mami, hesitating with the controls until she realizes she's succeeded, and smiles.]

Hello, my name is Mami Tomoe. I know it's rather early for this, but since some people might not know what Pallet Town has to offer, my friend and I thought we might give you a peek.

[And she shifts the view to... a long patch of dirt, decent sized holes dug in a line along its length. Apparently - despite the chill in the air - someone decided to spend the snow-free weekend gardening.]

Along with a lovely fish market and cozy inn, Pallet offers a berry orchard, and for a small fee visitors can pluck their pick. It will be a few months yet before they bloom, but we're just now planting some of the trees you'll be able to see, this coming spring.

Kaname-san?

[The gear turns to show Madoka, who is smiling too. She'd be so nervous to do this alone, but it's fun to do this with a friend!]

And did you know that Pallet Town is said to be the Friendliest Town in Kanto? [She frowns a bit.] The ferry ride was kind of expensive, but [...back to her cheerful face.] Everything there was great, and you can work at the inn to earn money here. So it's the same what you do in any other city, I think that's what they said. Maybe local restaurants are hiring people too...

[...Oh wait, did she forget to say something important here? Oh!]

My name is Madoka Kaname, you can just call me Madoka! Nice to meet you all!

[There's an off-screen giggle.]

Very good, Kaname-san. And she's absolutely right! If you come to Kanto from Johto, you'll be passing through this town, which makes the attractions all the more welcome.

And as for the trees... Now wait just a moment-

[Mami turned the gear again, focusing in on some half-grown trees waiting on a cart to be moved to the dirt. But a Rattata has jumped onto the cart as well, and is chewing on one of the tiny tree trunks!]

[Madoka laughs sheepishly at Mami's compliment. This is going better than she expected this to go for her own part.]

Maybe they'll teach everyone to do something from those berries. We're really not sure right now, but they know a lot about different ber--.

[Sorry, she kind of stops in the middle of the last word because there's the Rattata. There's an off-screen challenging sound from an Eevee.]

Ehh, Eevee. It's okay. We'll --

[Madoka moves closer to the rat. Too close, in its opinion as it tries to bite the girl, who then takes a step backward. Right, not like that. Definitely not like that.]

I wouldn't get too close. That one doesn't look interested in getting along.

[-and listen to that, Mami's dropped her courteous tone for a far more serious, flat one. There's some rustling, and then a hand reaches up to release a Petilil from a Pokéball.

And she does not look happy about being out in the cold.]

I'm sorry, Sara. It'll just be a minute.

Absorb, please.

[There's a reluctant trill, but the Petilil's move does allow them to attack the Rattata without chancing harm to the trees. And, indeed, the wild Pokémon staggers a moment from the attack before jumping off the cart, trying to make a move towards the girls.]

Ehhehhehehe.... [Madoka really should learn that not all of them were friendly... Mami can see her surprised face when the Petilil comes out of its ball.

And then after Absorb, and the Rattata leaving the cart, everyone can hear her clapping her hands together.]

That was great, Mami-san, Sara! --Ehhh, it's coming here?! [Why? Fail Trainer Madoka doesn't know what to do! Good thing her Eevee jumps between the girls and the Rattata.]

You want to go for it too? [Yep, Eevee looks and sounds very determined to fight.] Ummm... T-Tackle, I guess? Please? [Please be careful, okay? Madoka could add that too, but the Eevee is tackling that rat already... And it does it a few times instead of just one until the Rattata flees.]

It looks like Pokémon really do jump for a fight.

[Sara gives a weak sort of protesting noise, but there's no denying that's a tough little Eevee.]

Perfect! That was a lovely job. And I mean you too, Sara. [There's a shifting view as Mami sets the gear on the ground, giving a tilted view of the second bundled up girl picking up her shivering Petilil.] If we've promised to look after this orchard, we can't allow any wild beasts to harass it, can we?

[Really, how does Madoka always get those fierce protectors...?] You were all great! [But she wouldn't call herself even good, much less perfect, at this thing right now. Eevee looks happy and jumps to Madoka's shoulder.] Of course we can't! The wild Pokémon seem to be really interested in this place. Maybe it's just this time of the year...

Perhaps. But from what I've heard, there's far more where that came from, if we plan to leave town on foot.

[Not that Mami sounds particularly worried. And why should she, with such Pokémon to look after them? And her own is tugging on her coat, drawing her attention back to her gear.]

Oh- [The view of the girls gets much closer, as the device is picked up.] I'm sorry, everyone. I shouldn't have left this on so long.

That's true. Maybe they won't do anything if we walk on roads instead of bushes. ...If that's even possible.

[Madoka sounds a little worried. She'll take time to get used to it.

Oh, it's still on? Sheepish smile from the pink haired girl.]
Yeah, sorry about that ...But since it's still on! [Now she looks excited and peeks even closer to the screen.] Can you tell me about all the different cat Pokémon? I'm trying to decide which one to get first!

[OOC: Too bright colors?! Let us know! Order in action tagging is YOU -> Mami -> Madoka. Also, Madoka's replies will come from [personal profile] herwish as always, but don't friend that account! :3]

Hmmm...well, there's Skitty, Meowth, Glameow...and all their evolutions, of course!

Oh, and you might want to buy some repels, if you want to avoid battles on the road.

You just spray it and it ought to keep wild pokemon off for a while! It's pretty handy if you're trying to avoid battles.

That's a good way to use it, yes! I think having a pokemon or two stand watch - the nocturnal ones, maybe - is useful. Or just having an onix wrap around your campsite. That one tends to deter most attacks, frankly.

I'm glad to be of help, at least!

My travel group is...well, there's five of us now, so...there's a lot of pokemon to pick from.

Add to that the pokemon in the pc system...

Not as such. I mean, we occasionally coordinate breeding our pokemon to sell the eggs, but otherwise? Everyone catches whatever they like.

Yes, exactly! I try to keep track of what we have, although pairs don't always have breeding capabilities...

It's mostly a matter of deciding who to encourage to get along, if you're a breeder. I'm actually the only breeder in my travel group.

Ditto can breed with everything - they're, well, purple blobs, really. And genderless pokemon can breed with pokemon of either gender.

...Well, if they don't get on they won't breed, generally, so it's good to try to keep the peace.

Glameow? [Yeah ummm, those last four letters? She will say them slowly.] I've seen Meowth! I have yet to see the other two and their evolutions. Cat Pokémon names are so cute.

They really are! I don't have any myself, but there's at least one of each of those belonging to my friends...

I think Skitty is my favorite name of them all, it's sounds so cute. Ummm, if I may ask -- do you know their types? Any of them?

[personal profile] timelymaid 2013-02-27 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
They're actually all the same type! "Normal".
herwish: (☜☆☞ Explanation? Well ummmm)

video;

[personal profile] herwish 2013-03-02 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so - they'd be like Eevee then and I'd be drowning into Normal-type Pokémon. I wouldn't mind that, but I heard variety between types inside a team is a good thing.

[She'll need to learn to leave them to the PC at some point, huh? Noooo, but then she can't see them all the time while she's traveling.]

video;

[personal profile] timelymaid 2013-03-05 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! Although Normal types are a lot more balanced than some other type specializations, at least. [ looking at you Eridan and your water specialization. ]

And having two or three of the same type isn't a bad thing, I don't think.

[personal profile] herwish 2013-03-05 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
They are? I'm sorry I'm making a lot of questions, but - ummm - how are they more balanced? People specialize on types, and it's not just the gym owners? [Was that the right word, or...? She sounds impressed by it anyways.]

It doesn't sound too bad. I'd do it, and not just with cats, but also if I found something that I really, really like too.

video;

[personal profile] timelymaid 2013-03-06 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't mind! I'll answer as many questions as you like. And the main thing is they seem to have less...well, obvious weaknesses than some other types. Fighting types are good against them, but most things only have normal effectiveness against them. And some people do; I think balance is important, but some of my friends disagree.

Right! And for a breeder, sometimes you have to get similar types to breed, so.
herwish: (☜☆☞ Unsure Madoka is unsure)

video;

[personal profile] herwish 2013-03-07 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! [She really appreciates it.] Hee, sounds like they are pretty strong then, no wonder she's willing to against every Pokémon. Are fighting types common? [A little nervous on the next~] Uhm, I think devoting your time here for one type is quite amazing. Then again, having team full of different types sounds amazing too. But with just one type, I guess they'd -- learn to come over their weaknesses somehow.

[With items, maybe. This world seems to have a lot of items that all do different things.

Blink.]

So, they can't just breed them however they want? There's rules for breeding Pokémon?
timelymaid: art by <user name=strovi site=tumblr.com> (Default)

video;

[personal profile] timelymaid 2013-03-30 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. No more common than any other type? There are people who specialize in them, but I haven't met any of those persons personally. And they do learn to cover their weaknesses! I had a friend who refused to use anything but water types, and he did well enough against electric-oriented opponents.

And yes! There are "egg groups", and if you pokemon aren't both in the same egg group, they can't breed. Your 'dex should give what group your pokemon are in if you point it at them.
