first shot ❀ video ❀ pallet town

[The PokéGear turns on to show Mami, hesitating with the controls until she realizes she's succeeded, and smiles.]

Hello, my name is Mami Tomoe. I know it's rather early for this, but since some people might not know what Pallet Town has to offer, my friend and I thought we might give you a peek.

[And she shifts the view to... a long patch of dirt, decent sized holes dug in a line along its length. Apparently - despite the chill in the air - someone decided to spend the snow-free weekend gardening.]

Along with a lovely fish market and cozy inn, Pallet offers a berry orchard, and for a small fee visitors can pluck their pick. It will be a few months yet before they bloom, but we're just now planting some of the trees you'll be able to see, this coming spring.

Kaname-san?

[The gear turns to show Madoka, who is smiling too. She'd be so nervous to do this alone, but it's fun to do this with a friend!]

And did you know that Pallet Town is said to be the Friendliest Town in Kanto? [She frowns a bit.] The ferry ride was kind of expensive, but [...back to her cheerful face.] Everything there was great, and you can work at the inn to earn money here. So it's the same what you do in any other city, I think that's what they said. Maybe local restaurants are hiring people too...

[...Oh wait, did she forget to say something important here? Oh!]

My name is Madoka Kaname, you can just call me Madoka! Nice to meet you all!

[There's an off-screen giggle.]

Very good, Kaname-san. And she's absolutely right! If you come to Kanto from Johto, you'll be passing through this town, which makes the attractions all the more welcome.

And as for the trees... Now wait just a moment-

[Mami turned the gear again, focusing in on some half-grown trees waiting on a cart to be moved to the dirt. But a Rattata has jumped onto the cart as well, and is chewing on one of the tiny tree trunks!]

[Madoka laughs sheepishly at Mami's compliment. This is going better than she expected this to go for her own part.]

Maybe they'll teach everyone to do something from those berries. We're really not sure right now, but they know a lot about different ber--.

[Sorry, she kind of stops in the middle of the last word because there's the Rattata. There's an off-screen challenging sound from an Eevee.]

Ehh, Eevee. It's okay. We'll --

[Madoka moves closer to the rat. Too close, in its opinion as it tries to bite the girl, who then takes a step backward. Right, not like that. Definitely not like that.]

I wouldn't get too close. That one doesn't look interested in getting along.

[-and listen to that, Mami's dropped her courteous tone for a far more serious, flat one. There's some rustling, and then a hand reaches up to release a Petilil from a Pokéball.

And she does not look happy about being out in the cold.]

I'm sorry, Sara. It'll just be a minute.

Absorb, please.

[There's a reluctant trill, but the Petilil's move does allow them to attack the Rattata without chancing harm to the trees. And, indeed, the wild Pokémon staggers a moment from the attack before jumping off the cart, trying to make a move towards the girls.]

Ehhehhehehe.... [Madoka really should learn that not all of them were friendly... Mami can see her surprised face when the Petilil comes out of its ball.

And then after Absorb, and the Rattata leaving the cart, everyone can hear her clapping her hands together.]

That was great, Mami-san, Sara! --Ehhh, it's coming here?! [Why? Fail Trainer Madoka doesn't know what to do! Good thing her Eevee jumps between the girls and the Rattata.]

You want to go for it too? [Yep, Eevee looks and sounds very determined to fight.] Ummm... T-Tackle, I guess? Please? [Please be careful, okay? Madoka could add that too, but the Eevee is tackling that rat already... And it does it a few times instead of just one until the Rattata flees.]

It looks like Pokémon really do jump for a fight.

[Sara gives a weak sort of protesting noise, but there's no denying that's a tough little Eevee.]

Perfect! That was a lovely job. And I mean you too, Sara. [There's a shifting view as Mami sets the gear on the ground, giving a tilted view of the second bundled up girl picking up her shivering Petilil.] If we've promised to look after this orchard, we can't allow any wild beasts to harass it, can we?

[Really, how does Madoka always get those fierce protectors...?] You were all great! [But she wouldn't call herself even good, much less perfect, at this thing right now. Eevee looks happy and jumps to Madoka's shoulder.] Of course we can't! The wild Pokémon seem to be really interested in this place. Maybe it's just this time of the year...

Perhaps. But from what I've heard, there's far more where that came from, if we plan to leave town on foot.

[Not that Mami sounds particularly worried. And why should she, with such Pokémon to look after them? And her own is tugging on her coat, drawing her attention back to her gear.]

Oh- [The view of the girls gets much closer, as the device is picked up.] I'm sorry, everyone. I shouldn't have left this on so long.

That's true. Maybe they won't do anything if we walk on roads instead of bushes. ...If that's even possible.

[Madoka sounds a little worried. She'll take time to get used to it.

Oh, it's still on? Sheepish smile from the pink haired girl.]
Yeah, sorry about that ...But since it's still on! [Now she looks excited and peeks even closer to the screen.] Can you tell me about all the different cat Pokémon? I'm trying to decide which one to get first!

[OOC: Too bright colors?! Let us know! Order in action tagging is YOU -> Mami -> Madoka. Also, Madoka's replies will come from [personal profile] herwish as always, but don't friend that account! :3]

I think so. Maybe there's even more. They're really special, aren't they?

That's good.

I wonder if that can happen. I don't think there's a way to reverse it.

[And excited she is! More like ecstatic, to be honest, but that's a good thing!]

Thank you!

[Nod to the question. She's here to know about cats and you know something about this cat.]

...Tricky personality? [See her eyes sparkle when you mention showing it. Nod nod, yes yes show the cat! She wasn't this excited about them at first, but then people started showing cats and she's all into this now.]

[Oh, right. Most people keep their pocket monsters in balls... Eevee looks at Madoka. Yeah no, her Eevee hasn't seen a ball since day one.]

[Madoka on the other hand, is fully focused on the screen. It's a cat!]

Hello Hayato! [She waves cheerfully.] Meowths are cuuuute~. Kind of reminds me of the cats from home. [No weird colors or anything. Oh, except that thing on its head.]

Yeah, it does kind of look like a cat from Earth, huh? But the "tricky personality" -- I'm not sure if it's all Meowths or just this one, but they can be kinda strange.

[ for example, Meowth was curiously peering at Madoka before -- but now he'll lay down immediately as if taking a nap and ignoring her. ]

See, like that! In actuality, he's faking it!

[ Right away "Hayato" opens an eye and glares at him. ]

H-Hey, don't look at me like that... you know I'm right or you wouldn't do it!

[ And then Hayato will yawn, walk right back over, and plop into his lap, curling up and finally peering at Madoka again. ]

...See what I mean?

[ He really doesn't get this Meowth. Hence it's name. The Hayato from his world is weird, himself. ]

Hmmm...well, there's Skitty, Meowth, Glameow...and all their evolutions, of course!

Oh, and you might want to buy some repels, if you want to avoid battles on the road.

[She watches everything the cat does... Wow, yes, tricky is a good way to describe it. W-Wow, kitty, don't glare at your trainer. She's mostly curious about its doings anyway, no matter how much the cat ignores her.

Eevee looks like Meowth is not going to be on the same with her. Aww, but Eevee, look look, it's cute at the end again.]

Ah, yeah I see what you mean... Tricky is a good way to describe that kind of personality. I just -- wonder why it does that and if all of them do the same. I guess we can't know.

[She doesn't really get it either. But Hayato is such a cool name!]

[...Whooooooooops, we'll blame me me me me me me Madoka's excitement because she'd never call anyone - human or animal - it. The girl looks a little scared by the sudden hissing. ...Oh. Oh.]

Oh, I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to call her... Yes, I can certainly call her Arc! [Even Arc-san if that's what she prefers.] No problem. I'm sorry, Arc. No one should be called by that word.

[She's really sorry about it, honestly and her face is very apologetic too. ...and did we mention that she's sor-- yeah okay.]

[Aaaand she'll be amazed by the answer.]

It all sounds really useful. The abilities of their evolution line sound really amazing... Maybe I really should get a Shinx sooner or later. Luxrays look so strong too.
herwish: (☜☆☞ Well... I... Ummm...)

[personal profile] herwish 2013-02-16 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
E-Even more? [She scratches her head a bit. She'll never be able to choose between all of them.] They really are really special, I'm so happy that she's my starter. Not that I wouldn't be happy with any other Pokémon too, but the more I heard about Eevees, the more it amazes me.

[Madoka, you'd be amazed even by a Magikarp...]

Ummm. Well mostly I hear about choosing wisely, so maybe that means that there really is no way for any of them to go back... That's okay though. I guess they can make their own decisions too.
alonelyworld: (I won't give up)

[personal profile] alonelyworld 2013-02-16 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be neat, wouldn't it? I wonder if there are any other pokémon that are so adaptable.

Yeah. If my pokémon didn't want to evolve, I wouldn't make them. I think there's an item that prevents them from evolving too. I saw one when I was shopping.
backtobasics: (What...?)

video

[personal profile] backtobasics 2013-02-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Some Pokémon don't wish to evolve. I have three who won't. I think it's a rare thing to happen, but some just want to show their worth as they are. [And can be really stubborn about it, but that's another issue.] There are also Pokémon who just don't evolve at all.

Yeah, Luxio's the second form. They're a great add to the team... then again, all of the Pokémon have something good about them. [Ninetales will come a little closer to warm her trainer more.] Ah-- Thank you, Natsumi...

I was working at the department store in Goldenrod before I came to Cerulean City here in Kanto -- I don't know if I'd be up for that sort of job, really, but I'll consider it? And I'll let my friends know in case they want to work there!

[ grinning, though ]

-- Do they let you keep any of the berries?

[ he's wondering that now, too... ]
syochan: (love for your smile)

video

[personal profile] syochan 2013-02-17 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I guess we can't know. But you know, I think this particular one only does it to randomly try and get more attention -- or sometimes to avoid the attention. It's like he both wants it and like he doesn't. Why would he keep doing it otherwise, if he knows I know what he's up to?

[ and now Hayato is stretching out on his lap, looking up as if he wants to be petted. Shou will sigh and then do so. ]

Well, at least it doesn't seem dangerous or anything.

[ You really don't get it, Madoka! The Hayato from his world isn't who he seems to be, no matter how cool his name is. It's a fitting name. ]

You just spray it and it ought to keep wild pokemon off for a while! It's pretty handy if you're trying to avoid battles.
dressofheaven: (It's cute... squish it Berserker)

[personal profile] dressofheaven 2013-02-17 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
There aren't many Pokemon as magnificent or fearsome as my Berserker. I'm very pleased to have him.

[She turns her gear back to herself and nods at both Mami and Madoka's conclusions.]

That would be the best decision. Of course, that makes it hard to find Pokemon that are strong to join you, too, but some of them can be surprising. If they evolve, most of them can become very mighty.

And, of course, you have to strengthen the first ones you have, too. It doesn't help much to have all six Pokemon you can carry if they're all terribly weak. Quality over quantity!

[OOC: I actually am more used to that too, I think I just read the phrasing in the post in a way that wasn't intended. Oh well, we've got it going now, might as well work with it!

And replying to me gives me notifs, so that's probably the best way to go about it.

Well, you're in Kanto, so if you plan on taking the gym challenge, you're gonna want to grab some types effective against rock. Your starter's a decent start, but if you can, I'd seriously recommend getting a water type egg from the Breeding Center; they give freebies to newbies.

[Assuming she hasn't claimed hers already.]

Also, you should try catching a variety of types. And don't be afraid of letting them train on their own or make their own decisions in battles; giving orders is a good way to start, but since not every trainer does, there might be cases where you and your Pokémon need to think on the fly.

[With that said, he'll go ahead and attach links to the Breeding Center and his Training Guide.]

Hey, no need to apologize! Arc's one of my grouchier Pokémon, anyway.

[Huff. She resents that, trainer! Riku just rolls his eyes, though. Silly lion.]

And if you're looking for a Shinx, your best bet's probably to buy an egg, since you won't be finding wild ones until around Route 14.

That's a good way to use it, yes! I think having a pokemon or two stand watch - the nocturnal ones, maybe - is useful. Or just having an onix wrap around your campsite. That one tends to deter most attacks, frankly.
